Disco

Multiple Artists

Dance clubs are an integral part of urban nightlife from the late 60's through the 70's. By the mid-70's the term disco is used to define dance music having a strong four-on-the-floor beat and syncopated basslines, making it easy to dance to. Disco is seen as a reaction to the dominance of rock music at the time. In 1975 disco songs from multiple artists stand at #1 U.S. for thirteen weeks. Artists scoring major disco hits in 1975 include The Ohio Players, The Bee Gees, Silver Convention, Gloria Gaynor, AWB, LaBelle, Earth, Wind & Fire, KC & The Sunshine Band and many others. Van McCoy's No. 1 hit The Hustle generates a disco dance craze of its' own.
