Jacksonville, Florida southern rock pioneers Lynyrd Skynyrd are involved in a plane crash in Gillsburg, Mississippi that kills six of the twentysix on board. Lead vocalist Ronnie Van Zandt, guitarist Steve Gaines and backup singer Cassie Gaines die.
